AI is changing how buyers arrive, compare, and convert—and GA4 won’t spell that out for you. The real problem isn’t missing demand. It’s measurement systems that were never designed to recognize LLM-driven journeys in the first place.
GA4 can tell a team what happened on a site. It’s far less reliable at telling them why it happened—especially once AI systems start sitting between a buyer and a browser.
That’s the quiet break in the modern B2B funnel: not that demand disappeared, but that the traffic patterns that used to look like “search → landing page → form fill” now arrive through LLM referrals, messy attribution paths, and event streams that don’t line up with revenue stories.
And yet, the uncomfortable part is this: the situation isn’t mysterious. It’s mostly unlabeled.
GA4 wasn’t built to make LLM influence obvious
The course description for Live Course: Measuring the modern AI-powered B2B funnel states the issue bluntly: “AI traffic doesn’t behave like traditional search, and GA4 wasn’t built to make it obvious.” That’s not a philosophical complaint. It’s an implementation reality.
GA4’s default acquisition reports were designed for familiar referrers, UTMs, and relatively stable channel groupings. LLM-driven journeys don’t always cooperate. Sometimes the referrer is a known domain; sometimes it’s obscured; sometimes the buyer arrives after an AI assistant summarized a vendor list and the “first touch” the CRM records is nothing more than “Direct.”

The course also references applying the “CLEAN Data framework for reliable measurement.” The name matters less than the intent: measurement foundations don’t become trustworthy through hope. They become trustworthy through repeatable rules and a shared definition of “clean.”
But the map isn’t the destination. It’s the proof that the team understands its own plumbing. And plumbing is where AI attribution arguments usually go to die.
Labeling LLM traffic is the work most teams keep postponing
Session 02 moves into what many teams are already trying—usually in a half-finished way: “Identifying AI traffic in GA4 and GTM.” The promise is explicit: “Find, label, and enhance AI-driven traffic inside your existing analytics setup.”
This is where measurement stops being abstract and starts being operational. The topics listed include locating AI traffic in GA4 reports, identifying LLM referrals using both “intuitive and advanced methods,” and configuring GTM to label and enrich that traffic.
But the sneaky value is the mini-audit: “remove redundant or legacy tags.” That’s the kind of unglamorous cleanup that determines whether AI reporting becomes a durable system or a one-time analysis that can’t be repeated next month.
There’s another way to read this session: it’s an attempt to make AI influence legible without rebuilding the entire stack. Priya Nambiar—the marketing ops director who reads like an engineer—doesn’t need another thinkpiece about AI disrupting the funnel. She needs a container that doesn’t sprawl, an event model that doesn’t contradict itself, and a source list that doesn’t live in someone’s personal notes.
The course’s included “50+ LLM referral source spreadsheet” is a concrete nod to that reality. Classification starts with a list. Then it becomes governance.
Querying GA4 with MCP shifts teams from screenshots to answers
Session 03 is where the course gets deliberately technical: “Querying GA4 with MCP and AI.” It claims participants will set up an “MCP server on Mac or Windows,” query GA4 directly through AI tools, and isolate traffic from major LLMs using prompts.
Why does that matter? Because most reporting debates in B2B aren’t actually about performance. They’re about latency and confidence. Stakeholders ask a simple question—“Is AI driving pipeline?”—and the team responds days later with a screenshot salad and caveats.
A direct query workflow changes the posture. It reduces reliance on the GA4 interface, speeds up analysis, and makes it more likely that the answer can be reproduced. Same inputs. Same logic. Same output. That’s what earns trust.
Of course, faster answers only help if the underlying data is coherent—which loops back to the earlier sessions. The course design keeps that loop tight. Good.
The end product isn’t a chart. It’s a narrative stakeholders can’t ignore.
Session 04 lands where measurement should land: “Reporting and narrating AI impact in Looker Studio.” The stated outcome is not just a dashboard, but “a one-page narrative summary for stakeholders” and “a repeatable reporting system you can maintain long term.”
That’s the real finish line. A dashboard without a narrative becomes a Rorschach test: every exec sees what they want. But a narrative forces decisions. It frames what happened, why it happened, and what should change.
The instructors named—Jeff Sauer (Founder @ MeasureU), Julie Brade (Director of Measurement at MeasureU), and Manisha Mistry (technical marketer focused on server-side tracking)—are presented with credibility markers the course is willing to put numbers on. Sauer is described as having helped “50,000+ marketers” across “10,000+ organizations” and having built “a five-time Inc. 5000 agency.” Those claims are doing a specific job: signaling that the course is built by people who have seen many stacks break in many familiar ways.
But the most persuasive line in the source material isn’t a credential. It’s the motive: “For AI to stop being a black box in your reporting.”
Because the modern AI-powered B2B funnel isn’t unknowable. It’s just undocumented, inconsistently tagged, and narrated poorly. Fix those three things—map the data flow, label the traffic, tell the story—and the funnel starts behaving like what it is: a system that can be measured, maintained, and improved.
Not magic. Just mechanics.
