The disconnect isn’t the data. It’s the model—or rather, the absence of one.

Intent data has become a $2 billion-plus category, with providers promising to reveal which accounts are in-market before they ever fill out a form. The premise is seductive: stop wasting budget on accounts that aren’t ready to buy, and concentrate firepower on those showing research behavior. But after a decade of watching teams deploy intent signals, I’ve learned that the gap between promise and payoff comes down to three things: signal quality, operational integration, and measurement discipline.
